What is Tango? An excuse for the soul to surface… People will often ask how long it takes to learn tango and my answer is: how long does it take for your soul to shine? Because tango is not about beautiful steps executed by beautiful people. Tango, as I understand it, is a pure feeling executed by genuine people, tango is a tool to show our personality, for example: with the embrace we can see a person’s intimacy, their essence, their personality, their mood. And the music is the force that allows the emotions to show. From a philosophical point of view: the tango walk is a way of walking through life in an embrace, with someone else, with a story, with the others (on the floor, taking up space, using the space left by others, giving up space and sharing it). The music provides the material necessary to live a story, a story that lasts 3 minutes, is unique and will not be repeated even if the music is the same and the dancers are the same, and the place, etc. A story that develops in a small, great world that is the embrace, The Embrace called Tango..And because every person is unique, the stories are unique and the feelings are unique, each tango, each embrace, each form of expressing it is unique. Generally it comes into our lives as if by chance, and that’s how we live it. But as time goes by each embrace becomes an uncontrollable need for our soul and our spirit to be exposed for what it is, how it was created, free. That’s why I think tango is liberating, a manifestation of a joyous spirit It is common with your first steps to feel doubtful and apprehensive, but remember you have chosen tango for the purpose of enjoyment. So put on your special shoes, only those you have specifically chosen for this ritual of freedom, and let your embrace be firm but tender, feel your partner’s heartbeat as it echoes next to yours, and to this rhythm begin to walk, to enjoy, to feel.
